The Open University Library Committee is proud to announce the launch of the new search engine and updated library portal, which will be available to all students and staff from December 1.

The Open University is switching from the current Summon search engine from Ex Libris to WorldCat from OCLC. With this choice, the Open University is following the example of several other Dutch university libraries that have previously opted for OCLC. This transition means that access to scientific publications and other sources will be maintained and that the content of the collection will not change. The switch is taking place because the contract with the previous supplier is expiring and a new tender was required.

For you as a user, little will change in terms of access to scientific publications and other sources. The content of the collection will remain the same, but the search environment will look different. The interface has a more modern look, now works the same way for students and staff, and logging in is only necessary when downloading the full text of an article. With these changes, we want to make the use of our digital library easier, clearer, and more efficient.

To help you find your way around, a tutorial is available that guides you step by step through the new portal and search engine.
